New Year's Card - 2012
Dear friends and family,
Children Cameron finished his junior year of college in the spring, began his senior year in the fall, and spent his time in between quite lucratively on the festival circuit selling refreshments at venues around the region. Nathan finished his freshman year of college, began his sophomore year, and spent his intervening summer volunteering his time at a local dog rescue. Ian graduated from Benedictine High School this spring, started college at Virginia Tech in the fall, and spent his summer learning the drudgery of mindless office work. As a rising high school sophomore, Eli spent his summer in school, pushing ahead a year in math. He’s busy this fall with academics and music, studying both the French horn and tin whistle. Us Alison insisted that she would not be driving a minivan in her 50th year, so she’s now scooting around town in a Mini Cooper Countryman. To the surprise of everyone, she’s also sporting an iPhone and Facebook and Pinterest accounts. Josh doesn’t even know what Pinterest is -- that’s how far she’s come. Josh has been crafting stained glass windows for our home in Lexington and now boasts workshops in both homes. He does, however, share his free time between his craft and his science fiction, a passion he shares with Eli. Lexington We continue to spend as much time as possible in Lexington. We hike, explore, sleep, fish, kayak, garden and entertain friends and family. Our record to date has been 22 people sleeping under our roof for Cam’s 21st birthday in June, although with beds for only 10, we still don’t know where everyone actually slept -- and we don’t want to. 2012 We’ve got lots in the queue for the coming year. Cameron will graduate from Virginia Tech and pursue graduate studies to become a Physician’s Assistant. Nathan will head to Alaska in the summer to study conservation of the Arctic ecosystem. Alison will quietly celebrate her 50th birthday in January and then spend a week with girlfriends on Roatan Island, Honduras in February. Josh and Alison will accompany Eli to Europe for two weeks in July as he participates in a seven-country “Ambassadors of Music” tour. Ian, I just realize as I write this, will be spending the summer as a bachelor on Cobbler Court. I might need to look into that. Life has been good to us in 2011. We hope it has for you, too.
