There are many dining options in the Lexington area. As you might expect, some are better than others. The restaurants listed below (in no particular order) are ones that we have frequented and consistently enjoyed. Click on any map icon to find the restaurant on a map.
"Southern-accented New American fare & local wines are showcased in a genteel white-tablecloth space." - Google

The best Mexican food in the area. It is also the only Mexican food in the area (we don't count Taco Bell), but it is good nonetheless.
Don Tequila 455 E Nelson Street Lexington, VA 24450 540-463-3289 (phone) The restaurant is all the way in the back and isn't visible from the street. Just keep going back and look for the brightly painted building. |

From their web site:
"Located in the Hillel House on Washington St., the E Café serves kosher-style vegan and vegetarian specialties. Energize your day with breakfast of a freshly-brewed cup of Royal Cup gourmet coffees and teas and a New-York style bagel topped with one of our house-made spreads like Honey Almond, Sun-Dried Tomato or Dilled Salmon. Or, choose a cooked-to-order breakfast sandwich or breakfast bake, hand-crafted with farm fresh organic cage-free eggs and a variety of local cheeses and seasonal vegetables." This one is as advertised: a bright pink diner with a pink Cadillac parked out front. Inside, the diner is decorated with memorabilia from the 1950s and Elvis. The diner is located in Natural Bridge, just south of Lexington.

There are two places for pizza in Lexington: Frank's Pizza and Salerno Family Restaurant. Although both have good New York-style pizza, we prefer Frank's Pizza because they have a pretty darn decent gluten-free pizza. The gluten-free offering at Salerno's cannot measure up.

This one is a bit off the beaten track but definitely worth a trip. From tripadvisor.com:
"This is a tiny place that I can assure you is a bit different from anywhere else that you might have ever been. It's small, there's graffiti all over the walls (but no writing allowed in the new area or bathrooms), and there's nothing fancy about it ... but I loved it! ... I chose the table, rather than the booth ... there's one of each. If you like places that are a little quirky, with great home cooking, Gertie's Country Store is a must ... especially if you forgot to pack a pic-a-nic basket!" Gertie's Country Store 563 Tye River Turnpike Vesuvius, VA 24483 540-377-9313 (phone) |
From tripadvisor.com:
"We stayed at Glen Maury Park in our RV and took time to explore Buena Vista. It was Saturday night and we thought it would be nice to stay in Buena Vista for dinner versus driving over to Lexington. I saw JJ's and went to the web site to check them out. The menu is casual - burgers, fish, bbq and chicken. They do wood fired pizza on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We had the brisket and a pizza. The brisket was outstanding - melt in your mouth and so tasty. The pizza was also very, very good and you could watch it being made/cooked. We are so glad we found JJ's. I actually ordered their bbq and sweet/hot sauce to take with us. BBBQ was pulled, tasty and smoky. Wish I had gotten more. Do not let the fact that it does not serve alcoholic beverages stop you - you will be sorry. We are going back!!!" JJ's Meat Shak 1607 Magnolia Ave Buena Vista, VA 24416 540-261-1489 (phone) |
The Palms is a traditional bar and grill in downtown Lexington, "A Local Institution for Classic American Fare." The food and beer are decent and the atmosphere is warm and inviting.

This one might not classify as dining, per se, but I am very serious about my frozen desserts and our Sweet Frog is as good as any of them.
