Destination Idaho

Richmond > Houston > Salt Lake City > Soda Springs

Our destination yesterday was Soda Springs, Idaho, a small town tucked into the southeast corner of Idaho. We had a three-hour flight from Richmond to Houston followed by a three-hour layover, a three-hour flight to Salt Lake City and a three-hour drive to Soda Springs. We left home at 7:30am and pulled into the driveway of Alison's cousin at 11:15pm on our watch. We would have been here 5 minutes earlier, but we were pulled over by the police as we came into town. With a rental car sporting Washington state plates, where cannabis is legal, the local police (we later determined) geographically profiled us as potential drug runners. Alison name-dropped each of our relatives here, but the policeman didn't acknowledge knowing any of them. He let us go anyway.

Alison, her dad and I are here for the funeral of Alison's Aunt Eileen. The younger sister of Nanny (Alison's mom) and Alison's favorite auntie, Eileen passed away suddenly last week from cardiac-related issues. There will be a memorial service this evening, a funeral mass tomorrow and then a day spent with the extended family on Saturday.
